Welcome to the Alden Historical Society
The Alden Historical Society, founded in 1965, is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and promotion of the rich heritage of the Town of Alden.
The Society maintains two buildings: the Alden Heritage Center at 13213 Broadway in the Village of Alden and the Henskee Road School House located next to the Alden Community Center at 13116 Main Street, also in the Village.
The Heritage Center, with its many displays, is open on the first and third Saturdays of each month, April through December from 11 am to 1 pm. Of special interest is the display of photos and artifacts from Alden’s Black Water Mineral Baths (1904-1965). Special or group tours may be arranged by leaving a message at (716) 937-3700 or contacting aldenhistsoc@gmail.com.
The 1850s Henskee Road one-room schoolhouse is open during special Alden community events and by appointment (see above contact information).
The Society also sponsors programs of historical interest at 7 pm on the second Thursday of the month, September through June, at the Alden Community Center, 13116 Main Street.
The Board of Trustees meets at the Heritage Center on the first Thursday of the even-numbered months at 7 pm.
The Town and Village Historian has an office in the Alden Heritage Center and is happy to assist you with any research on Alden related topics. Please contact her at aldenhistorian1@gmail.com for information or to set up an appointment.
New members are always welcome. Annual dues are $12 per person, $20 per couple, $25 per family and $50 per business. Your support and effort will ensure that the history of Alden and its people will continue to be preserved, presented and promoted.
The Alden Historical Society gratefully acknowledges the support of our membership, the Town of Alden, the Alden community and Erie County.
